Assessments:
· Diagnostic Psychological assessments for treatment planning
· Concentrated Focus on Trauma
Interventions:
· Intensive intervention delivered across 5 full days while clients are in the community of Sioux Lookout.
· Intensive culturally based healing intervention experiences delivered on the land within cultural healing base camps.
· Gain experience with different therapeutic modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based interventions.
· Opportunity to co-facilitate group therapy for clients presenting with similar concerns.
· Opportunity to develop treatment plans and liaise with first nations communities and nursing staff for support of clients who return to community.
Consultation:
· Work within a larger care team for delivery of care (e.g., cultural workers, elders, physicians, art therapists, social work, etc).
· Participate in weekly meetings.
Community Education:
· Opportunity to participate in various education initiatives for both clients and allied health through sharing psychological knowledge and expertise.
Additional Opportunities:
· Opportunity for program development and continuous quality improvement.
· Opportunity to develop confidence and competence in mixed models of supervision that include in person and utilizing various technologies (i.e., videoconferencing, telephone supervision, and email as necessary).
Free shared accommodation (typically with other residents or visiting health professionals) is provided as an option for the residents who are matched to this rotation in Sioux Lookout. The accommodation is provided in addition to the salary given to residents. Pets are not allowed in the shared accommodation. Residents may also choose to arrange alternate accommodation if they desire at their own costs. While not a guarantee, when all of the resident positions are filled, the house tends to be utilized only by the residents of NORPIC who share the same house.
