TIMISKAMING FIRST NATION HEALTH & WELLNESS CENTRE

The Child and Youth Development Team consists of a multidisciplinary group of professionals who work with children and youth aged 0-18 who have special needs or face adaptation challenges, such as developmental delays, emotional issues, parenting difficulties, trauma, anxiety, learning disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and intellectual disabilities. Our mission is to develop, deliver, and coordinate services that enhance the physical, developmental, psychological, and social well-being of children, youth, and families. We offer a variety of services tailored to the unique needs of each child and family, working in collaboration with other community organizations and service providers.

This position is based at the Health and Wellness Centre in Timiskaming First Nation.

ROTATION EXPERIENCES

Assessments:

• Comprehensive evaluations including Psychological (mental health), Psychoeducational, and Neuropsychological assessments for conditions such as ADHD, learning disabilities, and Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Psychotherapy:

• Opportunities to deliver individual psychotherapy to children and adolescents
• Opportunities to gain experience with various therapeutic approaches, including CBT, EFFT, and DBT
• Co-lead at least one evidence-based, manualized group program (e.g., SNAP)

Consultation:

• Opportunity to offer consultations to local agencies and school boards
• Collaborate within an interdisciplinary team (e.g., occupational therapists, speech therapists, registered dietitians, nurses, social workers)

Education:

• Opportunity to deliver educational training and workshops to children, youth, and families in the community

HOUSING INFORMATION

The responsibility to secure housing is up to the resident who matches with this site.  Funding assistance may be available through the Timiskaming First Nation Health & Wellness Centre and applicants who could benefit from funding assistance are encouraged to discuss the opportunities of assistance during the application and interview stage so they can be fully informed going into the match.
